Giving your customers the information that they need to buy!

Giving your customers something for free goes a long way to making them buyers. This doesn’t mean you have to give them a gift or something physical. Informative written articles on a webpage can serve the same purpose! Text content on a web page has two main purposes. It allows you a chance to engage your customers into conversation without ever meeting them. Text also is what a search engines see and ranks you accordingly on your relevancy on a particular keyword or phrase. Proper written copy is a huge determining factor when it comes to making your website an effective asset to your company.

Engaging the customer

In order to properly engage your customers visiting your website you must talk directly to them and offer useful information that they want. The customer always wants to know what’s in it for them. You can’t simply put up a whole bunch so features of a product and expect your customers to make the proper connections. If you are selling cakes for birthday don’t simply say “great designs”, say something like “cake designs that will have your guests saying wow!” You have to get the potential customers thinking about the end result of buying your product.
Provide your customers with useful information and they will be more likely to come back. Offer articles and “how to” explanations that are useful to your target audience they will be much more likely to come back. The way to do this is to step outside your business for a second. If you were a customer what would you want to know before buying something or if you were gathering information what would you want? If you educate your website visitors there is a much higher chance that they will become your clients. Writing these articles and teaching people about your industry also establishes you as an expert in your field. People are much more likely to buy from someone who is well versed and knowledgeable about what they want to buy. Even if they don’t read all the articles the simple fact that you have them will give you this “expert” status.

Search Engines

Ranking at the top of search engines is no easy task in any market but content is king in the search engines eyes and the more you have the better. Writing “how to’s” and articles will add to the content on your website very quickly and Google will notice. If you are selling cakes and you have 100’s of articles on how to make and decorate different cakes search engines will see these articles as relevant information that your customers might want. If you really want to impress Google then make some “how to” videos. Google really likes web 2.0 content and will reward your website accordingly. Post these on your tube and other places in order to generate some additional links into your website as well! Don’t get carried away with video though you still need to have lots of useful plain text articles as well.
Content writing is a skill that not every person can absolutely master content writing but with a little practice you can get pretty darn good. The most important things to remember is speak directly to what people want to hear and give them useful information. Optimizing articles for search engines is a little trickier since you have to always keep certain keywords and phrases in mind while aiming for a target density of overall content. The first step is to write the content and then it can be optimized for its greatest potential.
